The Center for Bioethics and Research, Nigeria (CBR) is offering one Post – doctoral position to an individual interested in conducting research on the Ethics of Data Science Health Research in Nigeria. The successful candidate will be employed by the Center for Bioethics and Research (CBR) Nigeria. Mentoring would be provided by Nigerian and international experts from Universities of Ibadan, Maryland, and George Washington.
The position is funded by the “Bridging Gaps in the ELSI of Data Science Health Research in Nigeria (BridgELSI) Project” which is one of the projects in the NIH’s DS-I Africa initiative. The primary goal of the BridgELSI project is to develop a novel governance framework for ethical conduct of data science health research, provide training in research ethics to data scientists and in data science for members of health research ethics committees in Nigeria. The trainee is expected to work specifically on these areas and participate in all activities of the BridgELSI Project.
The grant and scholarship are administered by the CBR which is renowned for academic excellence and research in Nigeria. CBR has implemented training programs in research ethics, responsible conduct of research, artificial intelligence, research methods, and non-communicable diseases in Nigeria. CBR also conducts research in Cancers, Cardiovascular Diseases, Diabetes Mellitus, Alzheimer’s Disease/Alzheimer’s Disease Related Dementias. The Center for Bioethics and Research collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Health to establish the National Health Research Ethics Committee of Nigeria and train health institutions, NGOs, and governments to build capacity in ethics and establish health research ethics committees.
The Post – doc position covers Resources for research, Textbooks, laptop, stipend, etc. There is a wide variety of networking and training activities, including CITI courses and workshops, local and international conferences which the post – doc will benefit from.
Potential applicants should have Master’s degree in Bioethics, Philosophy, Law, Social Sciences, Public Health, etc., or MBBS or BDS.
