Biennial Training for Lay Members of Ethics Committees

April 23rd -27th was such a busy and interesting period at the Bioethics Center in Ibadan as a 5-days workshop was held for lay members of health research ethics committee in Nigeria. This was organised by The West African Bioethics Training Program (WAB), in collaboration with The New HIV Vaccine and Microbicide Advocacy Society (NHVMAS), Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC). The aim of the workshop was to train lay members of ethics committee on how to review research protocols and provide constructive feedback to the ethics committee and health researchers. The workshop was generously funded by United States’ National Institutes of Health.

A total of twenty-four lay members were in attendance from various parts of the country and of diverse profession and religion. 

Activities at the workshop include lectures, case studies, group discussion, games and movie session.
