Dear Distinguished Colleague,

The Union for International Cancer Control will soon face another momentous choice. Once again, we shall decide who will serve the UICC as President-Elect and thereafter assume office with a mandate to lead the global effort to reduce the global cancer burden. I am thankful to have been shortlisted and I will be honoured to be elected. I am Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, a paediatrician, cancer care provider and advocate.

She stands with a deep understanding of the global cancer crisis, shaped by over 50 years of remarkable advancements yet persistent gaps in access to care. As a UICC board member, she has engaged with over 500 organizations to address these disparities, prioritizing cancer prevention, cutting-edge research, and life-saving treatments. Her leadership vision focuses on leveraging collective strength to bring cancer care access to every corner of the globe, regardless of geography or socioeconomic status.

Her 30-year career as a physician, CEO of a diagnostic center, and founder of a cancer nonprofit, alongside her experience as First Lady, has honed her leadership, patient-centered advocacy, and health systems expertise. With achievements like securing funding for 10,000 indigent patients and spearheading Nigeria’s inclusion in WHO’s cervical cancer strategy, she embodies the strategic, compassionate leadership UICC needs. She is committed to closing the cancer care gap, growing memberships, and driving innovation in cancer treatment, ensuring that cancer is no longer a death sentence worldwide.
