The Center for Bioethics and Research (CBR) felicitates with Prof. Emmanuel Rapuluchukwu Ezeome as he assumes leadership of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS). Prof. Ezeome was installed as the 32nd President of the College at its just concluded Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference held in Lome, Togo from the 19th to the 24th of March 2023. The 63 years old college is the largest postgraduate surgical training college in Africa. The College comprises specialists from all surgical related disciplines and their sub-specialties, including Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Radiology, Anesthesia, Dental Surgery, Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology from 18 members nations in West Africa.
The new president, Prof. Ezeome, is a Surgical Oncologist and Bioethicists at the University of Nigeria Nsukka. He is a longtime collaborator and research fellow at CBR and the current Program Director and MPI of the United States’ National Institutes of Health/Fogarty International Center funded Eastern Nigeria Research Ethics (ENRICH) training program at the Institute of Public Health, University of Nigeria. His assumption of office in the WACS coincides with the introduction of research training and core science research as a pillar of activity in the College’s new strategic plan. The CBR wishes Professor Ezeome a fruitful tenure and looks forward to more rewarding collaboration with the new president, and the West African College of Surgeons.
