This is a re-introduction to the Masters’ degree in Bioethics at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. This program which was started in 2004 with support from the United States Fogarty International Center has trained 41 students from Nigeria and other West African countries to date.
Graduates from our program have progressed to doctoral programs in Switzerland and the United Kingdom among other places. Other students have returned to their primary assignments in Nigeria and other countries. Graduates of our program are find jobs as administrators of ethics committees, members of research ethics committees, research and program coordinators, research and program administrators etc.
Sale of Application forms for 2017/18 Session has started, and will be on from, June 13 to July 25, 2017. As we prepare for a new academic session, I am writing to invite you to recommend candidates for 2017/2018 academic session. Such candidates can be members of your institution’s research and clinical ethics committees, administrators of your research and clinical ethics committees, faculty members and staff who are considered to be potential leaders in research and clinical ethics, and research integrity in your institution.
The MSc program is multidisciplinary and features courses in biomedical ethics, introduction to philosophy, research methodology, scientific communication and a research project. Students can return to their institutions after one year of course work to implement their research and begin to contribute to research and clinical ethics. The program is supported by a training grant awarded to the University of Maryland, Baltimore. This grant pays for student’s tuition, books and materials for research projects.
