Dr. Sally Adebamowo has been officially appointed as interim co-leader of the Population Sciences Program at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC), a move recently confirmed by the Executive Scientific Advisory Committee (ESAC) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Dr. Adebamowo’s new role places her at the helm of a key research division at UMGCCC, where she will help lead initiatives to understand and address cancer-related risks, behaviors, and outcomes.
The Population Sciences Program at UMGCCC is a multidisciplinary research effort dedicated to studying cancer etiology (the causes and origins of cancer), patient outcomes, and behaviors associated with cancer risks. Researchers within this program seek to understand the numerous social, biological, and environmental factors that contribute to cancer, while also developing and promoting interventions to prevent the disease. The program’s mission is to advance cancer prevention and control through discoveries that can translate into real-world applications.
Dr. Adebamowo’s leadership is expected to guide the program through new challenges, leveraging her expertise in population health to make impactful contributions to cancer prevention and health promotion. Her appointment also comes as the Population Sciences Program continues to deepen its research efforts in cancer control, exploring ways to improve quality of life and long-term health outcomes for individuals impacted by cancer.
We at the Center for Bioethics and research congratulate Dr. Sally Adebamowo and look forward to her leadership at UMGCCC driving significant advancements in cancer research and prevention, and fostering impactful improvements in patient care and health outcomes.
