Our masters’ degree program will lead to the creation of
						a cadre of bioethics experts who can provide training at
						institutional level, staff health research ethics
						committees, review research protocols, conduct research
						and help to shape ethics and biomedical research policy.

						Among the expected impact of
						our training program is an increase in the contribution
						of researchers from developing countries to the global
						discourse on Bioethics. This is currently low and has
						not shown a significant upward trend in the past decade;
						though this is not peculiar to bioethics. Programs that
						give regional experts the opportunity of joint
						participation in supervision, research and mentoring of
						students are likely to lead to an increase in the
						contribution from West Africa to the bioethics
						literature. Global bioethics discourse will benefit from
						the contributions of developing countries bioethicists,
						particularly females, Muslims and animists.
